Tribute to Marvin Adelson, past president of UCA
Marvin Adelson, affectionately known as MBA to those who worked with him, started his career as a pharmacist, graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 1957. Marvin worked for Thrift Drug for much of his career, proudly serving his community for almost 20 years.
Marvin’s love of business and technology led him to join Universal Charge Accounts in 1974, initially serving independent community pharmacies in the Pittsburgh region. Under his guidance, UCA expanded significantly, now providing services to community retailers nationwide, encompassing drug stores, hardware stores, building supply companies, lumberyards, floral shops, and specialty retailers.
Marvin cherished his UCA family and the deep relationships he cultivated with the stores he served. In 1996, his daughter Suzanne Platt joined the business, and together they remained steadfast partners until Marvin’s passing in 2023. Suzanne, alongside the entire UCA team, carries forward his legacy of dedication to community retailers as we celebrate our 50th year in 2024.
